If Not Journalling, what?

A short while ago Mike started a journal , inspired by this idea Ward started a forage site. In the first Fedwiki Daily, Mike refers back to the world's first wiki .

Think back even further, I think of hypertext as it was in the mid 1980s, or to Ted Nelson's writings in the mid 1960s, and the language used to describe the concepts.

I am also reminded of Douglas Adam's 1990 documentary Hyperland, that almost certainly first introduced these ideas to a wider audience.

There is an interesting interaction, in Hyperland between Douglas Adams and Tom Baker (the agent) at about 11:00. Douglas is commenting about coming back from a *ramble* - Tom says the technical term is *browse*, but that Douglas can call it anything he wants. So, Douglas calls it an _**Ice Lolly**_.

In many ways call the reading a set of linked pages a *ramble* is nicer than referring to what we are doing as a *browse*. A *ramble* conjuring up the idea of a journey.

So, back to the original question. If this site is not a journal, what is it? Could it be a digital version of a Commonplace Book, or maybe a Miscellany?
